Daily Prompt – Describe the last nightmare that you remember having. What do you think it means?

I am not actually a fan of my nightmares. They usually involve feelings that I dread and often leave me shaking. So rather than doing the last one I remember, I’ll do one of my most vivid nightmares.

I had it when I was a young kid. But at the same time, it is still an exceptionally vivid nightmare that I had.

The first thing that I very vividly remember is the color scheme of the dream. Normally, I dream in either black and white or in color… as if it were tv almost. This had a crazy color scheme. Black, White, and Red. It was as if there was a red filter on the camera that filmed my dream.

I was sleeping in my bed with a teddy bear that I had been gifted at Christmas. It was a small black teddy bear that was holding a red rose in its hands. I remember knocking the teddy bear off my bed, which for some reason was in the middle of the room and not against the wall like normal. I leaned over to pick up the teddy bear and found it laying face up on the ground. It’s eyes started glowing bright red. I backed up away from it because it was rather frightening. As I did, it started levitating up off the ground. I decided to try and back away from it some more, but it started coming after me. Like, literally, the teddy bear started chasing me around the room.

As for what it means? I honestly don’t know. I never really spend time interpreting dreams or anything. I just accept that they happen. At most, I spend time praying that my dreams aren’t scary because I honestly do not like the emotions that come up when I have nightmares. But otherwise, that is the most time I spend on analyzing my dreams at all.

I guess that’s just me.

Far From Normal

Sorry for the lack of posts the last few days. I was not actually home. Anyway.

Daily Prompt – Many of us think of our lives as boringly normal, while others live the high life. Take a step back, and take a look at your life as an outsider might. Now, tell us at least six unique, exciting, or just plain odd things about yourself.

As an outsider might?

Well, then I guess the first thing that they might notice is that I am a LARPer. They might attribute it to the movie Role Models. I actively participate in two LARPs currently, with a third that I’ve been a part of on hold due to a medical injury that I had. My two LARPs currently are Dystopia Rising (a post-apocolyptic, zombie, survival, horror game) and Vampire: The Requiem (a theatre style political intrigue game). In the zombie game I play a run away slave living in one of the few towns that out laws slavery and I am actively trying to evolve into a stronger being. In the Vampire game, I play an 1890s street rat that was embraced by a Nosferatu vampire. She is just now gaining an introduction into vampire society and is getting herself into a bit of trouble from her lack of knowledge. A lot of people might think it strange that I continually play games like this. They might find it rather off putting. Some even think it shows that I cannot accept the real world and that I don’t understand reality. Well, none of that is true. For me, this is a great chance for stress relief. It allows me to take a break from things stressing me out so that I can look back on it with new eyes. It gives me a chance to practice social skills I struggle with in an environment that feels safe with people I trust. It also gives me a chance to learn a lot since I do a lot of research when building characters and their costuming. I learn more about history and society through my LARPing and by building characters than I ever did in school. It’s something I really enjoy.

Second thing someone might notice would be that I am a geek. I love comic books. I love Monty Python and renaissance faires. I LARP and play D&D. I love zombies and superheros. I love fantasy and Science-Fiction. It’s true. I’m a geek. And honestly, I’m proud of it.

Third thing someone might notice about me. I’m easily amused. I often find things very exciting that many others might find mundane. I often try to live my life to the fullest and experience everything I enjoy as much as I can. I do what I can to enjoy this as much as possible. I am an optimistic person and I find the joy in as many experience as possible. It can be strange to some, but it often means that I am very happy with my life.

I another thing someone would notice is that I LOVE musicals. I have a huge collection of Original Broadway Cast Recordings. I have a pile of programs from musicals that I have seen. I have a pile of DVDs for musicals I love. I have a huge supply of theatrical stuff including numerous pairs of dance shoes (despite limited dance experience), a huge box of stage/special effect makeup, costuming supplies, etc. There is just no way to get around how much I love musicals. And yes, I do randomly break out into song and dance.

A fifth thing that people might notice about me, I am rather quiet and shy. I don’t meet people well. Even among a crowd of nerds, if I don’t know people I will get very quiet and very introverted and I won’t really interact with anyone. It can suck a lot. But it’s true.

Another thing that an outsider might notice about me (but probably not the last thing they’d notice) is that I am a very strong Christian and I am very up front about it. I have posters on my wall about it. My Bible sits next to my bed. I listen to Christan music. It very much so influences my choices and beliefs. It is hard to not notice my faith in me. Though, that’s a good thing in my eyes. Why would I believe in something and not try to live it out? So, for it to be noticed by people means a lot to me and I am glad that people do notice it.

So yeah, those are 6 things that I think an outsider would notice about me. Now I don’t have to worry. I know they won’t think I’m normal.

Hell, I play pretend all the time. lol.

All About Me

Daily Prompt – Explain why you chose your blog’s title and what it means to you.

My blog’s title, Music and Zombies had quite a bit of an evolution. I have tried numerous times to hold numerous blogs over the years.

  • Some blogger blog that I wrote where I tried to inspire me. Name is completely forgotten by now.
  • A blog that was attempting to keep track of my journey as an educator and the things I was doing with it.
  • Some blog that was trying to keep track of my crafting.
  • A fitness blog that I named The Journey.
  • This one.

So, how did I settle on Music and Zombies. With the exception of my very first blog, the rest are very specific. A blog about education. A blog about crafting. A blog about fitness. Then this random creation that I named with a very random name. What’s that all about?

Well, honestly, I was having trouble with all of those previous blogs. The journey is an exception to the having trouble rule because that was started after this one and was the first blog I ever made with a very specific purpose in mind. With that one I knew exactly what I was planning on doing and how and why. But this one? What was the point of it? The point was to encourage me to write. I find that writing, no matter what the style of writing is, encourages me to learn. I research. I think. I analyze. I wanted to write to continually challenge myself and my thought process. But I wanted to just write. There was no focus other than I wanted to write. So I created a place where I could just write. I would write about whatever I was thinking about. Whatever I saw or thought or was considering. It was a place where I could write it all down. That was the idea behind this.

So why specifically name it Music and Zombies then? Well, I’m writing whatever comes to mind. Music and Zombies are perfect examples of all the things I think about.

I am a musician. I sing. I play numerous instruments and have done so for years (at least 16 years on my longest played instrument). I teach music. I take part in musicals. I listen to music daily. I use music as inspiration and as enjoyment. It is a huge part of my life. If I’m writing about things I find interesting, it makes sense that music would come up quite a bit. It is such a large part of my life, of course it is going to come up quite a bit.

As for the zombies? Well, I am a nerd. I love science fiction. I love fantasy. I love table top roleplaying games. I love video games. I love Live Action Roleplaying games. I love all this kind of stuff. I have a whole box full of game rule books at the bottom of my bed. I have a shelf of my own video games in my room and most of my movies and tv shows of choice are science fiction, fantasy, super hero, and other classic nerd genres. So it also makes sense that I think about geeky things and geek culture rather regularly. It would also make sense that if I think about them regularly, I’m going to write about them regularly. Why zombies specifically, of all the nerd terms I could have chosen? I like the juxtaposition it creates to the music.

So there you have it. A title to a blog that is about the musings of life that I think up. Now to see where it takes me.

Revamp the Energy

I’ve been stuck in a rut on this blog.

I always had good intentions with it. I enjoy writing. I enjoy getting people to think, but I never really had a focus for it. I never really knew where I wanted to go with this other than I wanted to write. Plus, I recently started up a second blog about my journey to getting into shape. Over on that blog I’ve written 31 entries since the beginning of the year. Here, I’ve written no where near that many and I’ve had the blog for quite a bit longer.

So, I’m in a blogging rut. How do I fix it?

Well, I noticed that there are some really neat blogging prompts and ideas. The Daily Post has a lot of great prompts and ideas for various blog entries. I’m going to try to utilize it. Maybe it will start off as just what I’m writing. Maybe it will outright give me a way to be more focused in my writing. Maybe it will challenge me. Maybe it will help me find a focus for this blog of mine. So, I’m going to give it a try. Going to do separate entries for each challenge I do, even if I do more than one each day.

Let’s see where it takes me!
